Day 0 - 24 hours per day is not enough!

After realizing, that our days are not long enough to finish all our work and have time for fun things, we tried to find a way out of this misery. What could you do to save time? Stop eating, stop drinking or stop sleeping? Since sleeping occupies the largest amount of time per day, it seems to be most effective to cut off the sleeping time. ;-)

We read many websites and blogs about polyphasic sleep and finally decided, that the Everyman Sleep Schedule would work best for us. To get a rough idea, what polyphasic sleep is about and which different schedules there are, the following websites are recommended:
We decided to go for the version with 3 hours of core sleep per night and 3 naps 20 minutes each during the day, which adds up to a total amount of 4 hours of sleep per day. Thus, we sleep 4 hours less than we usually did and should be able to extend our days by 25%.

Here, you can find more information on how to prepare for and how to adopt a polyphasic sleep cycle:

The day to start was supposed to be Sunday January 30, 2011. First of all, we planned our nap times. They should be 5 hours apart from each other, but can also be 4, 6 or even 7 hours apart depending on our schedule. Since we have a couch in our lab, we can use this for our naps. I preferred to have my first time around noon. On Wednesdays and Fridays I have meetings at 12 pm, so I moved the naps to 1 pm. I can take my second nap at 5 pm and my third nap at 10 pm everyday. The core sleep was planned to be between 4 am and 7 am or between 3 am and 6 am depending on the morning schedule.

Due to the core sleep at night (in comparison to the Uberman schedule), we should be able to move our naps by up to +-1 hour if something unexpected comes to our schedule. If we had to miss one nap, we should be able to make it up by extending the core sleep by 1 1/2 hours, but this should be an exception.

Alright, the schedule is planned. Let the show begin...
